Our Committee of Management

At Balit Community Kindergarten, passionate parents and community members come together to shape our children's early education. Our volunteer Committee of Management brings diverse skills and experiences to guide our kindergarten’s success.

As a committee member, you'll:

  • Help steer our kindergarten’s business operations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Have a voice in key decisions
  • Connect with other families
  • Build lasting community relationships

We believe parent involvement creates a stronger educational environment. Whether you're a parent or community member, your unique perspective and talents can make a difference in our kindergarten's future.

Why join?
Being part of our parent-led committee means shaping your child's early education journey while building meaningful connections within our diverse community. At Balit Community Kindergarten, we understand that every parent brings unique perspectives and skills to the table. Your involvement shows children firsthand the power of community engagement and teamwork – values that will stay with them for life.

We get it – balancing work, family, and volunteering isn't always easy. The Committee is very supportive, and when ‘real life’ gets too busy we are able to support each other to complete whatever task is required. Current and past committee members report the experience to be very rewarding – some benefits of joining the committee are:

  • Develop valuable leadership and management skills
  • Create lasting friendships with other families
  • Make decisions that directly benefit our children
  • Gain experience that enhances your professional growth
  • Build a stronger, more connected community

As a member of the committee, you’ll also have priority placement, ensuring your child gets their preferred class assignment for either the current year or the upcoming year (if you join after kindergarten has already started).

Who can join?
Any parent or legal guardian who has a child currently attending the kindergarten or who is enrolled for the following year. Members from the local community are also welcome and can apply for association membership by speaking to the committee secretary.

What’s involved?
The Committee of Management holds monthly meetings, conducted either online or in person, to discuss key issues and make decisions through voting. Between meetings, members actively contribute to various projects based on their interests, expertise, and time availability.

The Committee of Management works in close consultation with our Director and Educators. Some of our main responsibilities include:

  • Planning the budget
  • Maintaining finances and deciding how funds are spent
  • Reviewing and amending policies
  • Running monthly meetings
  • Appointing and supporting kindergarten staff
  • Quality Assurance Review
  • Organising fundraising events and social activities
  • Applying for grants to generate income and fund key projects
  • Timetabling of sessions
  • Enrolments
  • Maintenance and working bees
  • Maintaining communication with families via the newsletter and website
  • Securing the sustainability of the kindergarten both now and into the future.

Under our constitution, we are required to have at least 14 members consisting of four executives and 10 active ordinary members. We are required to have a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and at least ten ordinary members.

You can nominate for a particular role or join as a general committee member. Our main recruitment happens in November of each year, although members are welcome to join at any time. Click here for an overview of the roles. There is also the option to join one (or more) of the sub-committees that form across each year.

Without volunteers, the kindergarten cannot function, so please consider participating where possible. Being a committee member is a rewarding and interesting challenge, which allows you to contribute in a meaningful way to the quality of your child’s kindergarten experience.

If you’d like to volunteer to help manage Balit Community Kindergarten, please email president@bpk.org.au.
